Man United defender suffers ankle injury: He could be out for four months. MANCHESTER UNITED defender Guillermo Varela
could be out for up to four months after
suffering an ankle injury while out on loan. The 23-year-old Uruguayan moved to Bundesliga side Frankfurt on a season-long loan over the summer. He has made three appearances for the German
club so far this term but is now set for a lengthy
spell on the sidelines. During Frankfurt's 1-0 defat to Darmstadt on
Saturday, Varela collided with striker Sven
Schipplock and damaged his ankle ligaments. The young full-back had to be substituted after
just seven minutes and could now be out until
the winter break, the Manchester Evening News report. Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic told Kicker: "I immediately had a bad feeling. It was a very unnecessary tackle." Varela will undergo surgery on his ankle today.
