Bishop Daniel Obinim, the founder of the International God’s Way Church, has been granted bail two days after he was arrested.
The man affectionately called “Angel” by his church members had spent two nights in the cells of the Nima police station in Accra on charges of fraud.
Police claimed he had defrauded a gold dealer of GHc11.6 million and had vowed to begin prosecuting him today.
But on Wednesday, as soon as his bail conditions were fulfilled, Obinim breathed the air freedom as stepped out of the police station to wild cheers and jubilation by members of his church.
The controversial preacher forcefully denied the charges of fraud, as he made his way home. He told reporters that he had never met his accuser and so could not have defrauded him.
“As I looked at him at the police station, I asked myself ‘how can a young man who has probably never been to school, have that much money to be given to me?'”
Obinim said that fraud charges formed part of efforts to tarnish his reputation, vowing that God would fight for him.
“If I am a true man of God, then let my God speak for me. You cannot disgrace me like this and go free. My God will speak and you will all see what will happen to them and their families,” he said
